Creating Testing Email Accounts Using + Sign

Use Case:

Send multiple test emails from within a nurture or another place within Sugar Market that does not allow duplicate recipients.

Description:

In some cases you may need to send a singular test email to yourself for testing purposes multiple times, this is a work-around that will allow you to do this. Follow the directions below for each email provider to see how this is performed:

Outlook and Gmail

Outlook and Gmail accounts allow you to create an unlimited amount of aliases based on an existing email address without the need to create a new one.

You can simply place a plus sign (+) anywhere in the middle of your email address.

Example:

Original Email Address Modified Email Address

sugarmarket@gmail.com

sugarmarket+@gmail.com

Both inboxes will still deliver messages sent to these addresses to your mailbox even though you haven't registered.

Sending an email to both addresses listed above will still deliver the email to the original email address. This is because Gmail and Outlook ignore the plus sign and only use the alphanumeric characters to determine where an email should land. Sugar Market does not do this function and instead recognizes the modified email address as a new record.

Yahoo!

Yahoo allows you to create an additional "base name" for your mailbox for which you can register up to 500 disposable addresses with the hyphen as a separator. For more information see: Disposable addresses in Yahoo Mail.

Microsoft Exchange and Office 365

Microsoft Exchange, including Exchange Online as part of Office 365 for Business, does not support this. Each alias address should be registered with a mailbox before it is being used.
