Sugar Connect Quick Start Guide

Overview

Sugar Connect is an email client add-in that lets you work with your Sugar data without navigating away from Outlook or Gmail. The purpose of this guide is to provide a quick overview of the steps needed for administrators and individual users to set up Sugar Connect. For detailed instructions and information on all Sugar Connect features and functionality, refer to the Sugar Connect Product Guides section of this page.

Administrators: Getting Started

The initial installation of Sugar Connect requires an administrator to follow three main steps:

Do not proceed to Step 2 until your users have logged in to and set up their passwords in your Sugar Sell, Serve, or Enterprise CRM instance.
Setting Up the Sugar Connect Tenant

After purchasing Sugar Connect, you will receive an email from Sugar containing a link to create your Sugar Connect tenant. Click the link, complete the Tenant Setup form, and sign in with your email credentials for your email provider (i.e., Office 365 or Google Workspace).

For detailed steps, refer to the Getting Started With Sugar Connect section of the Deployment and Administration Guide.

Inviting Users

Once you have set up your tenant, you will be designated as the portal admin and can begin adding users manually or via auto-add. When manually adding users, you should be prepared for users to receive a welcome email the moment you add them to Sugar Connect as a user. The welcome email will direct them to the Sugar Connect Portal to get started using Sugar Connect. If you do not wish for a welcome email to be automatically sent to your users, you may want to consider using auto-add for your Sugar Connect users.

For detailed steps, refer to the Adding Users to Sugar Connect section of the Deployment and Administration Guide.

Mapping Users

Once users have been invited, in order for SugarCRM data to properly sync, the users must be mapped by connecting their Sugar Connect user to their Sugar CRM user within the Sugar Connect Portal.

For detailed steps, refer to the Mapping Users to Their CRM Accounts section of the Deployment and Administration Guide.

Users: Getting Started

After admin setup, there are two basic steps for individual users to get started using Sugar Connect:

Logging in to the Sugar Connect Portal

In order to use Sugar Connect, users can log into the Sugar Connect Portal to authenticate their email credentials. If you received an invitation email from your administrator, following the link will take care of this step. If not, you can log in directly to the Sugar Connect portal. When an admin has enabled "Auto-add new users from your domain to Sugar Connect" in the Sugar Connect Portal, users can also join the tenant by logging in via the Sugar Connect sidebar in addition to the Sugar Connect Portal. Additionally, if you wish to initiate a sync of calendar events or contacts between your Sugar instance and your mail client, you must set up the sync from within the Sugar Connect Portal.

For detailed steps, refer to the Logging InCalendar Sync, and Contact Sync sections of the Portal User Guide.

Getting the Add-in

All users will need to obtain the add-in to use Sugar Connect in their email client on their own computer.

  • Users authenticating with Office 365 will get the add-in via Manage Add-ins.
  • Google Workspace users will get the add-in from the Chrome Web Store

For detailed steps, refer to either the Installing Sugar Connect for Outlook or Installing Sugar Connect for Gmail section of the Installation Guide.
